Indigenous Pastoral Leadership Training

The Indigenous Pastoral Leadership Formation Program equips Indigenous people to exercise pastoral leadership and ministry in their home communities. Participants explore connections between Indigenous spiritualties and Christian faith through several topics in liturgy, religious education and pastoral ministry.

To make the program more authentically Indigenous, part of the training now occurs on the Naategamaa property next to the Ottawa River. By practicing land-based learning, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants are able to absorb lessons, not just intellectually, but as grounded and connected experience.

The program has been running for several years in collaboration with St. Paul University. The strengthening of connections between Indigenous teachings and Christian teachings continues to promote healing and reconciliation for all who are involved.

The Four Directions

The Four Directions are a core aspect of Indigenous teachings that we use in ceremony and that help us understand creation.
